# Advanced Setting

On 3S Cloud Render Farm, **Advanced Setting** is where you can configure your rendering on a deeper level and can control your speed of rendering based on your demand.

**1. Click the advanced setting box to expand options.**

<figure><img src="/files/frnTNCIxeLFGt2a1WEtP" alt="Save advanced settings"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**2. Choose the configuration suitable for you:**

**2.1 Machine Type**

We help users select the appropriate machine type for their needs, with options ranging from small to large CPU and RAM configurations.

**2.2 Output Folder Name**

You can select the name for the output folder

* Job ID - Job Name
* Job Name - Job ID

**2.3 Error checking**

This box is pre-selected to be ticked by default. When this option is enabled, the Deadlines will check for common issues. If any problems are detected, the Deadlines will automatically mark your job as failed, and the rendering will not proceed.

If you untick the box, our system will overlook these issues and continue with the rendering process.

# Detect & upload missing assets

To assist users in more easily collecting missing assets, our technical team has developed a new feature available on 3S Cloud Desktop app. After analyzing your scene file, you can follow these steps to detect and upload any missing assets:

**Step 1.** Click "Detect missing assets"

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/detect-missing-assets.jpeg" alt="Detect missing assets" height="390" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2.** Click "Find missing assets", then select the parent folder containing missing assets to detect missing assets again.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/find-missing-assets.jpeg" alt="Find missing assets" height="453" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

For the Absolute path, if the system does not show "File does not exist", you can skip this step.

**Step 3.** Click "upload" to collect missing assets

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/upload-missing-assets.jpeg" alt="Upload missing assets" height="461" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 4.** Click "Re-analyze"

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/reanalyze-mising-assets.jpeg" alt="Re-analyze" height="410" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Finally, scene analysis reports no missing asset so you can create a render job now.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/no-missing-assets.jpeg" alt="Scene analysis reports no missing assets" height="370" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Also, you can watch this video to see to detect & upload missing assets on 3S Cloud Render Farm:

# Get & Check Event Logs

In case there are issues with your render jobs on 3S Cloud Render Farm, you can get & check event logs to detect them yourself.

**Step 1.** Click "**View Details**"

<figure><img src="/files/FMKxOtsaM0MwERFz60YT" alt="View details"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2.** Click "**Get log**"

<figure><img src="/files/7jZcphBaxlW1Fds29cSD" alt="Get &#x26; Check Event Logs"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Pause, resume & restart render jobs

Please keep in mind that the system only supports resuming for animation jobs. For render jobs with single frame or preview jobs, you will have to restart render jobs.

**Pause render jobs**

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/pause-render-job.jpeg" alt="Pause render jobs" height="173" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

For render jobs with single frame or preview jobs, you should not pause, because if you still want to continue rendering the project, you will have to re-render from scratch.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/pause-rendering.jpeg" alt="Pause rendering"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Besides that, if your project costs more than the amount you have left in your balance, your job also runs the risk of being stopped.

**Resume or restart render jobs**

Please keep in mind that the system only supports resuming for animation jobs. For render jobs with single frame or preview jobs, you will have to restart.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/restart-render-job.jpeg" alt="Restart a render job" height="173" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Upload projects using Botaniq Addon

**Tree library Botaniq addon** is an ever-expanding library of optimized & realistic 3D vegetation - mostly trees and grass. This article will show you how to **upload projects using Botaniq addon** to 3S Cloud Render Farm.

Remember that after this the scene will be much bigger as everything is in it even the geometry. You might want to save the new .blend as \_PACKED.blend and send that to our render farm while reverting to the non-packed version later.

When you use Make Local, all the linked geometry+material collections are made Local. So your file size inflates, let's say from 230 MB to 800 MB depending on how many different assets you had in the scene.

1. Select all linked collections (all botaniq assets) and make them Local by going into Objects > Relations > Make Local > All

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/upload-projects-using-botaniq-addon.jpeg" alt="Upload projects using Botaniq Addon" height="316" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Then you [Pack All into .blend](https://3sfarm.com/support/how-to-use/tips-for-blender/how-to-pack-a-blender-file-before-uploading/) as usual.

After that, you can upload projects using Botaniq Addon to our render farm!

See more instruction for [**Botaniq - Blender 3.0**](https://blendermarket.com/products/botaniq-trees/faq)

Don’t hesitate to [contact us](https://3sfarm.com/contact/) with any issues. We are pleased to assist you.

[3S Cloud Render Farm](https://3sfarm.com/) currently supports [Blender](https://3sfarm.com/blender-render-farm/), [Houdini](https://3sfarm.com/houdini-render-farm/), [Cinema 4D](https://3sfarm.com/cinema-4d-render-farm/), [Maya](https://3sfarm.com/autodesk-maya-render-farm/), [3ds Max](https://3sfarm.com/3dsmax-render-farm/).

# Pack a Blender file before uploading

Our system supports both packed and packed Blender files; however, we recommend packing your Blender files before uploading in order to upload your project as a single file without missing assets.

**For packed files**

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/TU1-q3CoLlA>" %}

Blender has the ability to encapsulate (incorporate) various kinds of data within the blend file that is normally saved outside of the blend file. For example, an image texture that is an external image file can be put “inside” the blend file. This allows sharing a full project as a single file, instead of e.g. an archive containing the blend file and all its dependencies:

Before uploading, please pack your Blender files with the following steps:

1. Click "File" -> "External Data" -> "Pack All Into .blend" to pack your assets.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/pack-external-data.jpeg" alt="Pack external data in Blender" height="427" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. If you use linked libraries, please click "Edit" -> "Operator Search...", then search & click "Pack Blender Libraries" to pack them.

<https://youtu.be/QJ9TCCueZoA>

Please keep in mind that the textures of all linked libraries need to be packed (Follow the instructions from Step 1).

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/operator-search.jpeg" alt="Operator search in Blender" height="427" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/pack-blender-libraries.jpeg" alt="Pack Blender libraries" height="426" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Please note that:

* Some textures such as **video textures, and image sequence textures** cannot be packed into the .blender file. We recommend uploading the Zip file or the folder containing the unpacked .blend file with these textures.
* If any add-on supplied by 3rd parties you use doesn't work directly, please contact us in order that our team can assist you with the rendering.

**For unpacked files**

Please make sure that you use relative paths in your file before uploading unpacked files.

There are some ways to upload such files to our system:

1. Upload the folder which contains your .blender files together with all its assets including external textures, linked libraries, fonts, video/image sequence textures...
2. Upload the Zip file:

* Add to archive the .blend file and all the directories containing your data (.blender files, textures, and others) into a Zip file.
* Upload the Zip file to our system
* Unzip the file by our Extract Zip File feature into a folder
* Finally, you can select the folder and launch to render

We are pleased to assist you, so don't hesitate to contact us with any issues.

# How to bake data with FLIP Fluids in Blender

Baking, in general, is the act of pre-computing something in order to speed up some other process later down the line. Rendering from scratch takes a lot of time depending on the options you choose. Therefore, Blender allows you to “bake” some parts of the render ahead of time, for select objects. Then, when you press Render, the entire scene is rendered much faster, since the colors of those objects do not have to be recomputed.

**FLIP Fluids** is a powerful liquid simulation addon that gives you the ability to create high-quality cinematic fluid effects all within Blender. 3S is pleased to let you know that we support this addon on our Render Farm.

In order to bake data with FLIP Fluids in Blender before uploading to our system, please follow the following steps:

1. Step 1: Select your simulation domain

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/select-your-simulation-domain-206x116.jpeg" alt="Select your simulation domain in Blender" height="402" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Step 2: Click "Physical Properties Tab" -> "Bake Data"

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/bake-data-206x116.jpeg" alt="Bake data in Blender" height="402" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# How to add one Blender file into another – Append in Blender

Append makes a full copy of the data into your blend-file, without keeping any reference to the original one. You can make further edits to your local copy of the data, but changes in the external source file will not be reflected in the referencing file.

These functions help you reuse materials, objects, and other data blocks loaded from another blend file. You can build libraries of common content and share them across multiple referencing files.

Please follow these steps:

1. Step 1: Click "File" -> "Append"

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/append-blender-files-206x116.jpeg" alt="Append Blender files" height="402" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Step 2: Select the .blend file you want to append and then click "Append"

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/select-the-blender-file-206x116.jpeg" alt="Select the blender file" height="402" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Step 3: Select the folder you want to append, for example, Material, Object, Light,…

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/select-the-folder-to-append-206x116.jpeg" alt="Select the folder to append in Blender" height="402" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Make relative paths for cache folder in Blender

Many blend files reference external images or other linked blend files. A path tells Blender where to look for these files. If the external files are moved, the blend file that references them will not look right.

When you specify one of these external files, the default option is to make the path relative. Blender stores a partial path evaluated relative to the directory location of the referencing blend file. This choice helps when you need to reorganize folders or move your files.

With a relative path, you can move the blend file to a new location provided the externally linked files are moved along with it.

In order to make relative paths in Blender, please follow the following steps:

1. Step 1: Select your simulation domain

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/step-1-to-make-relative-paths-in-blender-213x116.jpeg" alt="Step 1 to make relative paths in Blender" height="389" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Step 2: Click "Physical Properties Tab" -> "Cache" -> Enter "//\[the name of your cache folder]"

# Global Illumination Cache: Calculate Irradiance Map and Light Cache

Light caching (called "lightmapping" in older versions of V-Ray) is a technique for approximating the global illumination in a scene. To get the lighting from the environment, V-Ray traces many rays from the camera into the scene. Each bounce of light creates a sample in the light cache that can be used during the rendering. If one ray hits a sample that was created by another ray, the tracing is stopped and the information from the sample is read instead. This speeds up the process a lot.

**Nodes**:

If your project requires precalculated Global Illumination Cache (GI Cache), you have to calculate your Irradiance Map and Light cache file then upload them along with your project.

If you have never used Irradiance Map and Light cache before, here are some tips for you.

**Step 1**: Enable GI setting and set up for yourself.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-calculate-Irradiance-Map-and-Light-Cache-Step-1.png" alt="Enable GI setting" height="777" width="340"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2.1**: Create your .vrmap file (Irradiance Map).

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-calculate-Irradiance-Map-and-Light-Cache-Step-2.1.png" alt="Create your .vrmap file (Irradiance Map)" height="774" width="340"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2.2**: Save your .vrmap file.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-calculate-Irradiance-Map-and-Light-Cache-Step-2.2.png" alt="Save your .vrmap file" height="532" width="942"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2.3**: Create your .vrlmap file (Light Cache).

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-calculate-Irradiance-Map-and-Light-Cache-Step-2.3.png" alt="Create your .vrlmap file (Light Cache)" height="777" width="340"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2.4**: Save your .vrlmap file.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-calculate-Irradiance-Map-and-Light-Cache-Step-2.4.png" alt="Save your .vrlmap file" height="532" width="945"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 3**: Go to V-Ray Global Switches => choose “Expert” option => enable "Don't render final image".

&#x20;Then click 'Render" button to create your vrmap file.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-calculate-Irradiance-Map-and-Light-Cache-Step-3.png" alt="Create your vrmap file" height="778" width="341"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 4**: Go to GI tab and select path for the vrlmap/vrmap you created.

\=> Set Irradiance map mode to "From file", select the .vrmap file.

\=> Then set Lightcache mode to "From file", and select the .vrlmap file.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/How-to-calculate-Irradiance-Map-and-Light-Cache-Step-4.png" alt="GI tab" height="779" width="341"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Finally, save your project file and pack all your project assets as well as your vrlmap/vrmap before uploading to [3S Cloud Render Farm](https://console.3sfarm.io/auth/register).

Hope that our instruction is useful for you to calculate Irradiance Map and Light Cache for Global Illumination Cache.

# FAQ

# Common issues for Blender

These are common issues for [Blender](https://3sfarm.com/blender-render-farm/) to support you to render on 3S Cloud Render Farm.

<figure><img src="https://3sfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/blender-demo-228x112.jpeg" alt="Blender Demo Scene" height="350" width="715"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**1. Fail to analyze**

If you face with this issue, your data may have not been synced completely to our render farm. 3S suggests you wait for at least 5 minutes and then re-analyze the file. If it still doesn't work, feel free to let 3S know for more support.

**2. Fail to submit job**

There are some reasons for this issue. So, if you are unable to submit job successfully, don't hesitate to contact 3S for checking.

**3. Unusual long render time**

Maybe out of memory caused this problem. So, 3S suggests you use GPU 32 GB VRAM or move to CPU (moving to CPU is highly recommended).

**4. Render fail**

If you are facing this problem, maybe it is due to:

* Lack of .blend file => Please pack file before uploading: <https://3sfarm.com/support/how-to-use/tips-for-blender/how-to-pack-a-blender-file-before-uploading/>
* Out of memory => 3S recommends using GPU 32 GB VRAM or move to CPU (moving to CPU is highly recommended).

If it doesn't still work, feel free to let 3S know for more support.

**5. Incorrect Output**

A lot of our customers have their unexpected render output due to the missing assets. So, you can take a look back at your assets and upload the missing assets to our system before re-rendering.

If there is no missing asset, the cause may be in your asset path. If the asset file is not at the same location in the project folder as it is at your local computer, there will be a chance that 3S can not find the connection between asset files and your project folder. In this case, please set the path of the asset file into the relative path.

**6. Output lacks the effect of simulation (water, smoke,...)**

You should check your cache file again. It seems like you are missing the cache file or its path may be wrong. Please upload your cache file or fix your cache file path. [Click here for detailed instructions](https://3sfarm.com/support/how-to-use/tips-for-blender/make-relative-paths-for-cache-folder-in-blender/).

**7. Fail to make payment**

In this situation, please check your Paypal account first. If you can not find any problem from your side, please let 3S know for the check. In the best case, you should take a screenshot of the payment screen and send it to us for problem checking.

3S hopes that these common issues will support you to render your Blender projects easier with 3S Cloud Render Farm.

If you have any questions, feel free to [contact 3S for assistance](https://3sfarm.com/contact/).
